What is PHP ?
PHP stand for Hypertext Preprocessor and was originally named Personal Home Page. PHP is a server side scripting programming language that can be used as standalone programming language or in combination witch (X)HTML. PHP programming can be used to add headers and footers to every page, to submit form data directly into a database, in combination with AJAX, so data will be published on pages without reloading the design, etc. PHP is a cross platform programming language, it runs on Unix, on Windows and now also on Mac OS X.

History of PHP Programming
Rasmus Lerdor, a software engineer and member of the Apache Team was the initiator of PHP Programming Language. He developed PHP Programming in 1994, for personal use only. He had to create a CGI wrapper, a system to check which surfers were visiting his personal website. The year after he made a package, the Personal Home Page Tool, a PHP Programmer Construction Kit. After that a version 2 came, named PHP/FI, it included a Form Interpreter so SQL queries could be parsed from now on. In June 1997 around 50 000 sites worldwide were built using the PHP Programming Language. A core PHP development team started supporting the PHP programming language.
